Corpus Christi Sunday - 2011
Whilst most of my Episcopal brothers and sisters will celebrate the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Proper 8, or The Second Sunday after Pentecost) - St. Andrew's celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi which was transferred from Thursday. St. John the Baptiser was commemorated at the Wednesday Healing mass. When I was called to St. Andrew's, I was called to be an Anglo-Catholic rector. Part of the Anglo-Catholic tradition has been the celebration of the feast of Corpus Christi, and this will be my third celebration of this feast at St. Andrew's (Last year's did not occur as I was headed to Spain for the not-so-successful Camino de Santiago).
For the standard Episcopalian, Corpus Christi must seem like a strange feast - something we don't do. However, if you look on page 927 of the Book of Common Prayer, you will see the propers for "Of The Holy Eucharist." Guess what those propers are from? Like most of the Roman Catholic traditions, we have not lost them, but renamed them or moved them. They are still a part of our heritage and who we are as Anglicans.
